How to Avoid the 2 Most Common Pitfalls in Home EducationFriday
A growing number of homeschoolers are facing one or the other of two extremes. Many are not schooling at all...unschooling...letting lots of other things take priority...not tending to business...finding it difficult to be disciplined in the area of academics. On the other end are some who are making academics their god -- forcing their children to study works by ungodly individuals (just because they’re in vogue) and obsessing about achievement and traditional formal college routes...not caring if these academics are Christian-based or not. The objective of this workshop is to help you find your balance; how to avoid the two major pitfalls of home education.
Come to this workshop to learn how to know if you’re in academic idolatry or falling short in the fundamentals of home education. Find out what the normal pursuit of general knowledge is not good for, and examine the marks of a truly Biblical education.

Do You C What I C?Friday
So…what about spelling? That’s the question many home educators puzzle over. “I don’t need my child to win the Nat’l Spelling Bee; I just want him to write a paragraph with few or no misspellings!” What’s available to teach spelling? Get a grasp of various phonics approaches and choose what works for your family. Take home more of the “whys” in the mysteries of language (Desi Arnaz makes an appearance with the following complaint about English: “In-a Spanish you got a letter and it says the same thing all de time!”). Play games, win a prize, take your own college-level spelling test (Gasp! Not me! Tests are for my children!). No better way to put yourself in their shoes!

Focusing on the pedagogical, practical, and curricular strategies that will help raise up the culture warriors of the next generation, this message will likely challenge your concepts and help you rethink your priorities in homeschooling.

Why Homeschool?Friday
Homeschooling isn’t easy. At times, it can be overwhelming. Knowing why we are homeschooling can help us persevere when times get tough. As our culture moves away from a Biblical worldview at a rapidly increasing pace, homeschooling becomes more and more important. By teaching our children at home we have the amazing opportunity to help our children truly understand how to live life from God’s perspective. Training our children to think and act from a Biblical worldview—that is why we homeschool.
