"Home Schooling Starts at Birth - Part 1"
Whether you know it or not you ARE home schooling your child from birth. The potential of every individual is determined by the experiences presented to them. Learn the essential steps to brain organization that can happen in the first few years of life providing skills that last a lifetime.
"Home Schooling Starts at Birth - Part 2: Ages 0-4 The Pivotal Years"
Ages 0-4 are crucial for children's later school success. Enhance your child's abilities by utilizing neurodevelopmental activities in those 1-5 minute teachable moments throughout the day. This information is your child's insurance policy against learning difficulties. School will be a breeze for youngsters that achieve neurological organization.
"What Really Makes Curriculum Work? The Brain!"
For years we've tried to solve learning issues with different curriculum or coping and compensating skills. Research now confirms that neurodevelopmental methods change the brain. Just as computers are enhanced by high speed connections vs. dial-up, brain enhancement activities can take your child's curriculum into integrated knowledge and lifelong tools for success.

(new workshop) "Teaching Mathematics with Art (or is it Teaching Art with Mathematics)"
Can your child's future really be boiled down to something as simplistic as whether they are right-brained, or left-brained? Surely, as homeschooling parents, we want our children to believe that they are capable of using 'both sides' of their brains. In this educational and entertaining workshop, we will explore the natural and logical connections between Mathematics and Art. We will investigate mathematical principles, and see how they are related to, and illustrated by, artistic applications. Likewise, we will explore several artistic concepts, and see how they are based on mathematical ideas. Of course, throughout, the importance of language and communication will be stressed, as it must play a key role in the understanding of both areas.
(new workshop) "The Seven Laws of Teaching at Home"
Are we, as parents, sufficiently equipped to teach our own children? Admittedly, we have had little, if any, 'formal training', or 'certification'. How can we be confident that our children are going to be well-educated? This informative and entertaining session is based on, and adapted from, the respected work of John Milton Gregory, and will focus on effective strategies of instruction which are understandably simple, educationally sound, and ethically founded. Veteran homeschoolers, and newcomers alike, will discover some new ideas, reinforce existing practices, and be encouraged to continue the homeschooling commitment.

"What Should 21st Century Christians Be Teaching Their Children?"
Classical education is often defined by what was taught to children long ago. Should we not rather ask the question: What did classical tutors intend students to know once they were educated? Five key questions help us interpret what these tutors would teach our children today if they were in our homes, in our culture, with our language, and with 21st century knowledge.
"Combining Classical Education, Charlotte Mason, and Unit Studies with a Christian Perspective"
The myriad of homeschool choices can be overwhelming, similar to the choices between interstates, highways, back roads, and scenic routes. There are so many ways and opinions, how can one navigate through it all and still homeschool effectively? Why not blend the best of each method? Instill Christian values while integrating great literature, chronological history, geography, hands-on activities, notebooks and timelines, narration, study of Greek and Latin roots, nature studies, and more. Enjoy short, well-planned lessons in the morning with time to pursue individual interests in the afternoon.
"Developing Independent Learners"
Ideally we desire to give our children a foundation in education that they can use for the rest of their lives. To do this we must wean them from being spoon-fed to learning for themselves. We must establish the foundation for independent learning as soon as possible. It begins when we read aloud to them; teach them to read; and subsequently teach them to learn to love to read. Once they learn the value of good books, we can initiate the weaning process and let them begin to guide their own education.
"Occupying Preschoolers while Homeschooling Older Children"
Our children are precious gifts from the Lord but sometimes they can interfere with our human plans. Many homeschooling parents are in distress because they find their little ones seeking attention at all the wrong times. With six children we have found creative ways to prepare our young 'sponges' for school while keeping them creatively occupied so we could concentrate on the older ones. The workshop is full of practical suggestions for educational toys and common household items that can be used to educate and occupy young ones.

Filled with practical ideas for building memories, shaping children's imagination, making the most of learning opportunities as well as stories of successes and failures. "Learning is Neurological"
Participate with me in these foundational issues about English: Correct Speech, Sentence Structure, Penmanship, Spelling, Reading, and Writing. Teacher - Parent interactive.
"Yes, You can Teach the Labeled Child"
Inspect with me these concerns about "Diagnosing and Labeling Children." Do we agree to evolutionary-trained diagnosticians' unspiritual assessments? Are we aware that "assessment tools" defy God's truth in matters they claim to assess? Are diagnosticians' lists of labels limited only by the number of "abnormalities and diversities" they can generalize to the "human species?" How "invasive" is "method of instruction?" Teacher - Parent interactive.
"Do You Feel Overwhelmed?"
Is "lack of knowledge" the "chief obstacle" preventing us from "generating" Literate Students - students who possess understanding of all "literacy tools": 1) knowledge of the standard for correct English speech; 2) ability to chose from among English sentence structures when speaking; 3) knowledge of penmanship so the brain's neurological learning avenues can join to construct as well as sort out print; 4) knowledge of the oral/written partnership between English sounds and their symbolic companions [What they must understand to spell literately!]; 5) ability to identify in print the oral/written partnership between English sounds and their symbolic companions [What they must understand to read literately!]; 6) ability to apply these "tools" in self-study; 7) ability to apply all the above when writing [What they must understand to write literately!]? "Worldview & Deception: How to prepare your children for the future in an increasingly postmodern age (Isaiah 5:20)"
As Christian parents, it is incumbent on us to carefully educate and instruct our children to be on-guard against the deceptions and traps of the Evil One that seeks to destroy them. For instance, are you familiar with the best-selling book "The Secret" and how to defeat the deception that it teaches? What is wrong with The Shack? Parents, there is nothing more important than the eternal destiny of our children, and making sure that they do not fall victim to false teaching! This is an extremely valuable session with Dr. Jobe Martin! You don't want to miss it!
"More Incredible Creatures that Creation Proclaims, Refuting the Argument for Mindless, Random Chance Processes."
You will learn about some incredible animals that demonstrate how mindless, random chance processes could never produce the irreducible complexity that is seen in EVERYTHING in this universe. Slow gradual evolution could not produce the specificity and complexity and beauty that we see in everything - and especially the animals God has created. New Creatures on the new Creation Proclaims such as Nudibranchs, Aye-Ayes, Wetas and much more!
"The Tone in the Home: How our Expectations and Responses affect our effectiveness in home schooling"
A practical look at what makes the foundational difference in home schooling when we are with our 'little gifts' 24-7. Some basic Scriptures about real people of the Bible and applications to us today. Happiness is a choice and pain is inevitable, but misery is optional. We MUST be training with a view toward eternity, not just graduation. Hypocrisy in the home is the foundation for disaster.

"Classical Education: The New Normal in Homeschooling"
Why is classical education becoming the new norm in home education? Can you implement just aspects of the model? In this workshop Johnnie will answer these questions as she presents the developmental stages of learning which are foundational to classical education. She will also make suggestions on how to teach Latin, logic and great books as the core of your curriculum. Johnnie's workshops are known for productive Q and A times, so bring your questions!
"Classical Education: How to Implement at All Levels"
In this workshop Johnnie will provide parents with an assortment of options for implementing classical education methods and materials into your home education philosophy. Building on the Friday workshop, she will review some of the materials on the market today available to the classical minded parent. Key discussions include the methodologies and resources appropriate for the developmental stages and how to teach multiple ages at the same time.
(new workshop) "Keeping the Spirit of Homeschooling: Balancing Home, Church, and Outside or Online Classes"
In this workshop Ted and Johnnie will assist parents in developing a balanced, comprehensive approach to spiritual, social and academic education, without compromising the key ingredient, the home. Because of numerical growth nationally, there are now more educational options for parents, which can be a blessing or a curse. Curriculum/schedule "overwhelm" is a potential problem which can take the joy out of what was suppose to be a enjoyable endeavor. How does one decide which subjects to teach at home, which to outsource to others and when to venture into online classes? And at what ages? We all desire for our children to grow spiritually, socially AND academically. So, how do I balance education, church and family life? The Seagos provide a "boatload" (they live on Lake Conroe!) of ideas, experiences and options to help you utilize the vast resources available without losing the spirit of home schooling. Moms and dads alike will benefit from this workshop.

Throughout history, learning has taken place through the relational process of mentoring. However, in today's model of education, there has been a shift toward exclusively learning through books, computers, classrooms, and videos. While these modern methods certainly have their place, by themselves they leave the learner relationally deficient and narrow-minded. In this session, Ryan will present a vision for relational learning and outline practical methods for establishing mentoring relationships in your life and in the lives of your teens.
"God's Vision or Your Vision?"
Drawing on lessons from his own life and the life of Abraham, Ryan explores the importance of seeking God first and obeying Him in decisions regarding higher eductation and in all of life. This session will assist your student in gaining a vision and a purpose for their life, and help all in attendance.

College of Biblical Studies by Daniel Lopez & Charles Carpenter | |
"Rethinking the Bible College option for Homeschoolers"
There is a growing disconnect between the pragmatic need for higher education (as seen in clear statistics that show the ever-widening salary gap between College grads and non-grads) and the perceived diminished return-on-investment that is sensed by many parents of homeschoolers (as revealed by skyrocketing College costs and so forth). As the value proposition for a traditional College experience is increasingly being tested by new educational paradigms, many parents may feel reluctant to have to "throw the baby with the bath water" as they ponder the College-or-no-College question. This workshop will compare the experience offered by three types of academic environments: the secular state school, the religious liberal arts college, and a "pure" Bible College experience. The benefits of a "Bible immersion" experience at CBS Houston will be presented as a safe and affordable alternative for your homeschoolers.
"Teaching General Education With The End In Mind"
The General Education department at the College of Biblical Studies exists to promote a theological learning environment for a student who desires to build upon their biblical knowledge. This breakout session will demonstrate how the College of Biblical Studies will prove to be the best environment and the 'best next step' for the student who desires to move forward with their biblical world view. Moreover it will show how the College of Biblical Studies equips students with the breath of knowledge to thrive in a changing world; that is, providing a biblical framework so 'that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work (I Tim 3:17).'

| Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum | |
Parents who home educate their teenagers do so because they want to enjoy their children while preparing them for adulthood responsibilities. Dr. Johnson's workshop provides insight on parenting teenagers who feel the urge to grow up, yet struggle to balance dependence on parents while demonstrating maturity to emancipate from parental oversight. This workshop is practical while challenging parents to assess how they home educate teenagers who do not need mother to teach every lesson in high school courses. Paradigm Accelerated Curriculum is designed to provide quality academics in core subjects while training students in time management, virtues, and principles needed to cope with contemporary peer pressure. The hallmark of Paradigm curriculum is the design that encourages students to complete high school courses as rapidly as desired or as slowly as needed to earn transcript credit through line upon line and precept by precept.
